Every year on September 22nd, fans of The Lord of the Rings unite to celebrate Hobbit Day, which was coined in honour of the shared birthday of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. This year marked the 46th anniversary of the internationally recognised event, and die-hard fans Andrew and Catriona knew exactly how to throw a party worthy of the Shire!
To celebrate, they invited 20 fellow Tolkien lovers for an epic movie marathon, and what’s a Hobbit gathering without a grand feast? Naturally, they called Hog Roast Livingston to create a Middle-Earth-inspired banquet right here in Lanarkshire!
Our Hog Roast Livingston catering legends had an absolute blast whipping up a menu that would make even a Took jealous. With Hobbits known for their love of good food (and lots of it), we made sure to deliver a feast that would satisfy everyone, from first breakfast to elevenses and beyond!
We kicked things off with a round of canapés that had the guests instantly in a festive mood. Pan-seared fillet of beef with mini Yorkshire puddings and horseradish cream? Check. Handmade gourmet sausages? You bet. We even had beer-battered mini fish and chips, quiches, and smoked Scottish salmon. And because Hobbits are never without a cosy bowl of soup, we served homemade soup with crusty bread rolls and butter.
But the real star of the feast was the main course—an entire spit-roasted pig, complete with golden crackling, sage and onion stuffing, and applesauce. It was truly the highlight of the day, and we made sure the non-meat-eaters were just as spoiled with grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs.
We rounded out the meal with sides that were as hearty as they were delicious: heritage tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad, gourmet coleslaw, Caesar salad, and of course, buttered new potatoes. Because, let’s face it, no Hobbit meal is complete without “po-ta-toes!”
To finish on a sweet note, Hog Roast Livingston served up desserts that had everyone reaching for seconds—vacherins of strawberries with passion fruit cream and sticky toffee pudding that would make even Samwise Gamgee proud. Every bite was pure magic!
And the fun didn’t stop there. Guests showed up in full Middle-Earth attire, transforming Andrew and Catriona’s home into a mini-Shire. Frodo, Gandalf, and even a couple of elves gathered to feast, laugh, and watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy— it was an event that truly felt like it was happening right in the heart of the Shire.
