Another weekend, another great time for Hog Roast Douglas staff catering birthdays, weddings, engagements, corporate functions and all kinds of other events. For Blair’s 30th birthday bash on Friday, her partner Jamie had called us a few weeks ago to ask about our hog roasts Douglas, and was surprised to hear that we can use our machines to not only cook other animals and birds, but also vegetables and potatoes. They are all-in-one meal machines!
Jamie still knew that Blair would love a hog roast Douglas for her special day surprise, and decided on one of our lovely winter warmer menus. With hot slices of juicy meat, crunchy pieces of salty crackling and your choice of vegetables, the winter warmer makes cool autumn and cold winter outdoor events much more bearable, as they warm you up from the inside out.
On the day of the party, while Blair was being pampered by her friends and had no clue what was in store for her, we set up the hog roasting machine in the couple’s back garden, ready to prep the meat. Preparing a pig means scoring it all over, covering it in water to keep it moist, and then smothering it with salt, which turns the skin into crackling. Once done, we just need to turn on the machine, set the temperature, and away it cooks. We need to keep an eye on it throughout the roasting, just in case, but other than that, it’s as easy as pie.
Some time later, while we were slicing the carrots, celery, peppers and sweet potato to roast underneath the hog, some of Blair’s family arrived to help Jamie decorate the house and garden with banners, streamers, and balloons. By this time, the incredible smells were already wafting around the garden and down the street, and were tempting the early guests to ask if they could try a little. Unfortunately, a hog roast Douglas is a slow process and is only ready when it’s ready, so they had to wait for the birthday girl!
Once Blair arrived, emotional because of the surprise guests as well as the hog roast that she had always wanted to try, it was definitely ready to serve alongside the roasted veg and then topped off with our homemade gravy.
