Thereβs a lot we miss about being kids. But one of the best parts of childhood? Those last few weeks of school before summer holidays kicked in. Colouring instead of classwork, films instead of lessons -and the ultimate highlight: sports day. Egg and spoon races, beanbag tosses, hoopla, sack races… Thereβs no denying it – the end of term was always the highlight of the school year.
Right before the Lanarkshire schools wrapped up for the holidays, Hog Roast Dumfries had a proper throwback moment when we were asked to cater a school sports day at a local primary.
The PTA wanted to give the kids a day to remember. So, along with all the traditional games, they brought in Hog Roast Dumfries to finish things off with a BBQ lunch. To say we were excited would be putting it mildly!
Hundreds of kids, their parents, and teachers came together at a local park for an afternoon packed with fun on what ended up being the hottest day of the year so far! With the temperature hitting a balmy 28 degrees Celsius, we were more than a little grateful for our catering gazebo, which gave our team a bit of welcome shade.
Once things got going, Hog Roast Dumfries got stuck in cheering from the sidelines while firing up our grill with all sorts of goodies. From handmade beef burgers and top-notch sausages to chicken skewers and sticky BBQ ribs, our meaty selection had the air smelling like meat heaven. And don’t worry, we also made sure to bring veggie burgers and plant-based bangers for anyone going meat-free.
By the time the final race had wrapped up and all of the medals had been handed out, everyone was ready to dig in. We quickly served up fresh rolls packed with your choice of meat (or meat-free option), loaded with cheese, onions and coleslaw, plus pasta salad and mixed fries on the side.
Safe to say, the food went down a storm and since Hog Roast Dumfries had prepared enough food for a small army, nobody held back from going back for seconds!
