A gorgeous autumnal day is what welcomed us when we arrived at a delightful large function room in the town centre for a hog roast Newmains, adorned in balloons, banners and streamers to welcome 200 guests who were attending a school reunion. The large majority of the class of 1995 hadn’t seen each other for just over 20 years and so it was a real delight to be asked to provide some great food for them on this special day with a hog roast Newmains. Jess, the host who had managed to find so many of her old school friends and classmates through social media, old fashioned phone books and word of mouth had spent the past 12 months arranging the event in which they could reunite, catch up and share details of their life since school – marriage, children, careers, travelling, whatever you can think of! With such a large guest list, Jess was initially concerned for how she was going to find a caterer who was able to supply enough food for her guests. That’s where we come in. Our suppliers offer us a range of sizes for our hog roasts, with one our large pigs serving more than 300 people, it was no problem for us in supplying enough food to satisfy Jess’ guests at her school reunion party. We selected one of our large pigs which Jess had requested to be served with the option of either bread rolls or a selection of hot and cold sides. This was no problem for us and we are happy to tailor our menus to the requests and needs of our customers as much as we can.
We prepared and cooked our food to the rear of the venue which had a small patio area, just enough room for our equipment and cooking, before we moved the delicious goods inside to be served buffet style on long, delightfully decorated tables. We served slow cooked pork meat with our classic floured bread rolls, stuffing, apple sauce and our moreish crackling alongside a range of extra sides to please all palettes. Jess had selected two of our freshly prepared on site salads, our crowd pleasing tomato and mozzarella and my signature homemade coleslaw which is incredibly satisfying with hot roasted meats. We also served some herby roasted new potatoes which went down especially well, with not a morsel left inside once the guests had explored the buffet style served food.
Once guests were stuffed and couldn’t manage any more servings we were happy to box up some of the leftovers of the hog roast Newmains (albeit their wasn’t much left!) for some of the guests to take home before we discreetly cleared up our equipment, ensuring minimal clear up was required by the venue and the host, allowing more time for partying and celebrating with old friends.
