Winter Warmer Hog Roast Shotts

For Andrew’s birthday party that we catered over the weekend, he asked us to provide one of our lovely winter warmer menus. At this chilly time of year, when autumn makes us head to the back of the wardrobe to bring out the chunky jumpers, scarves, and gloves, we find that many of our customers love something even warmer to eat at outdoor events. Combining hot, slow-roasted pork slices and crispy pieces of crackling with warm, freshly-cooked vegetables definitely does the job, and on Sunday, Andrew’s particular winter warmer choice ensured his party was a big success.

The birthday boy asked us to provide a hog roast in Shotts for around 30 guests, to be prepared and cooked on-site in the grounds of his parents’ pub. We slowly roast the pig for several hours – around an hour per 10kg – so this chunky beast would take about 5 hours of cooking, once it had been carefully prepared by one of our chefs fresh at the venue. Andrew also asked us to cook new potatoes in a herb butter as well as supply a selection of seasonal vegetables including cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. Additionally, he thought one of our tasty homemade gravies would top off the meal nicely, and he decided on our popular onion flavour.

On the morning of the party, the sudden strong winds and pouring rain meant Andrew called us to ensure we could still cater his party, and we put his mind at ease. We can cater in just about any weather, including in a marquee tent outside, or even indoors if necessary, so long as there’s a large well-ventilated space. However, the pub venue had plenty of covered areas in the gardens, where we could easily cook under a gazebo and where large amounts of guests could stay dry and out of the wind (and they could retreat inside the pub if necessary).

By the time of the food service, many people decided they should eat inside, due to the worsening weather. This wasn’t a problem at all, and once the meat had rested, we filled plate after plate with scrumptious pork and crackling, potatoes, veggies, and gravy, and our team served all of the party guests inside, where they warmed up in no time. The hog roast in Shotts went down a storm!
