Hog Roast Cumbernauld Kicked Off Burns Night Celebrations Early This Year

Celebrating the life and works of the iconic Alloway-born ploughman turned poet and lyricist, Robert Burns, Burns Night is one of the most important cultural celebrations we have here in Scotland; and with food being such an integral part of the occasion, it’s a day that we as caterers look forward to being a part of every single year.

Of course, with the celebration falling on a Tuesday this year, we found that most of our customers and clients wanted to celebrate the day a tad earlier than usual. So, from Friday night all the way through to the day itself, Hog Roast Cumbernauld’s caterers found themselves fully booked with Burns Night parties.

One event we attended in honour of the ‘Auld Lang Syne’ creator was a private party hosted by Shug. As a big fan of Burns’ work, the customer marks the occasion every year by inviting his friends, children and grandchildren over to enjoy a lovely meal and lively atmosphere. While he usually shoulders the responsibility of cooking by himself, this time round, he decided to switch things up a bit by asking Hog Roast Cumbernauld to take over.

Working together with Shug, our team came up with an entirely unique menu plan for the client, and while it didn’t feature the Burns Night Supper tradition of haggis, neeps and tatties, the client and his guests absolutely loved the results.

Hog Roast Cumbernauld Spending all afternoon in Shug’s garden, Hog Roast Cumbernauld worked hard to deliver a hearty buffet, which included a platter of fresh-cut roast chicken, Scottish salmon, cucumber, cheese and pickled onion sandwiches to start, followed by side options of garlic and rosemary roast potatoes, light and leafy salads, gourmet coleslaw and a medley of seasonal veg. The real star of the show was the beautifully succulent and tender, spit-roasted lamb, which had been pre-seasoned with rosemary and garlic before being left to sizzle and spit for several hours on the rotisserie grill.

Shug and his family were so pleased with the flavoursome feast that the Hog Roast Cumbernauld team served, which added to the already vibrant and happy atmosphere.
